“The Arc Community League, Chapter NYSARC, Inc.”
The Arc Community League has been a Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. for 6 decades. However, our history of service to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities actually dates back over 60 years prior to joining the NYS ARC when our organization served as advocate for the families of individuals residing on the campus of the Wassaic Developmental Center.
Our Medicaid Service Coordination staff is knowledgeable in the wide range of services offered in the area. We believe that one size doesn’t fit all and having choice is best when it comes to choosing services for your loved one. THIS YEAR MARKS 29 YEARS OF OUR MEDICAID SERVICE COORDINATION PROGRAM. Our Service Coordinators work with you and advocate for you and your loved one to tailor services to the person’s individual needs and goals.
In addition to the programs we offer, The Arc Community League and the Taconic DDSO (Developmental Disabilities Services Office) co-sponsor a family day picnic each summer. This year’s picnic took place on August 29, 2015. Individuals living in community residences and other living situations in the Taconic DDSO catchment area attended along with family members and direct care staff. About 450-500 people joined together at the Wassaic campus to enjoy themselves at what has become the highlight of the year. Everyone was treated to a barbeque lunch, musical entertainment, tee-shirt painting and petting zoo.
The Arc Community League has been sponsoring this event for 25 years. This, along with our Supplemental Group Day Habilitation Program, is an example of our commitment of assisting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in becoming involved in their community through inclusion.
We are proud of our long history and hope to continue bringing quality services to this population for decades to come. We thank all our members, families and partners for their continued dedication and support.
